When the qualification process for AFCON 2019 started Nigerians were in high spirit; in a group comprising of Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa and Libya the Super Eagles should be able to book the ticket by winning the group or at least one of the best second.(this was the permutation because it was originally intended to be a 16 nation tournament)
After the first round of matches, the atmosphere in the most populous black nation in the world changed.. They had lost 0-2 to the rampaging Bafana Bafana in their hitherto fortress of Uyo. Suddenly two things hit everyone 1. this must be the most unfortunate football administration in Nigeria, after this first ever loss, Nigeria is on the path of not making it 3 consecutive AFCONS all in the life of the Amaju led Administration 2. Does it mean that Stuart Baxter has an indian sign on this nation. South Africa has recorded another victory under him against Nigeria (first in the friendly match and now a defeat in a competitive match.
The whole nation became mathematicians, plotting graphs and using the Almighty formula to calculate the worst case scenario and also estimated ways of escape that can be taken to eventually book Nigeria the ticket to AFCON2019 in Cameroon. While we were at it the Newly elected CAF administration muted an idea of a 24 nation tournament and the automatic qualification was increased to two each from the 12 groups.
So far so good
Now its now 4 matches into the qualifying series and the Super Eagles have weathered the storm and in their last 3 matches (1 home and 2 away matches) they have been able to garner 9 points and scored a massive 12 goals in the process. Presently Group E is delicately poised after 4 round of matches but only a calamity of unbelievable proportion (losing to Seychelles at home and losing to South Africa away) would put Nigeria’s qualification in jeopardy or ultimately hinder the Super Eagles of Nigeria from flying the Nations flag in Cameroon 2019
Presently Nigeria currently top Group E with 9 points, followed closely by South Africa on 8 points, Libya- 4 points while Seychelles can be proud of wrestling at least a point from South Africa.

with 2 matches remaining, and the matches will go down during the FIFA windows in November and March of 2019. The matches going down this weekend of November 16-17 2018 are South Africa hosting Nigeria while Libya visits the island of Seychelles.
A WIN or a DRAW by Nigeria against South Africa means two things, 1. Libya who will play Seychelles about 90 minutes after the completion of the match at the FNB stadium has a great opportunity of qualifying if they can beat the group’s weeping boys Seychelles (Because a defeat or a draw leaves South Africa with 8 and 9 points respectively while Libya can jump to 7 if they beat Seychelles). 2. Nigeria automatically qualifies (with either 12 or 10 POINTS)for AFCON 2019 after missing two back to back editions. While a loss by Nigeria means South Africa will be on 11 points and out of reach of Libya who can only get to 10 points if they win their 2 last matches, and their hope of catching Nigeria who will remain in 9, and play host to Seychelles in their last match, a win puts the Super Eagles on 12 points and they soar to Cameroon.
The match will take place at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Kick off time will be 4pm Nigerian time and the officials for the match are Referees: Bakary Papa GASSAMA (GMB) – Sulayman SOSSEH (GMB) – Omar Darboe (GMB) |

WHY THE SUPER EAGLES MUST WIN
The match coming up this Saturday at the FNB Stadium is very important. Nigeria should win to effect a revenge on the Bafana Bafana thereby securing the much desired ticket and also give opportunity to the home based Eagles and fringe Super Eagles to have Seychelles for Dinner in March 2019.
