Former world women’s tennis number one Serena Williams has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup in Montreal for what she called “personal reasons”, Tennis Canada said on Saturday.

Tennis Canada said Williams’s decision to pull out was made for personal reasons, but it did not elaborate.

The tournament organisers and fans alike are surely disappointed that Serena wont be participating but the tournament remains a high level competition with the top 10 ranked players still on,along with 22 of the top 25. Obviously there are exciting matches in store from the outset. World number one Simona Halep remains the top seed at the Competition while Caroline Wozniacki is seeded number 2

The tournament kicks off on Monday 6th of August 2018
