Francisco “Paco” Gento López was born on the 21st of October 1933.He is a former Spanish left winger and he was regarded as one of the greatest Spanish players of all time and one of the greatest ever players in his position.In his playing days Gento was an extremely fast left-winger, with excellent vision and technical ability, which made him an effective assist provider. In addition to his control and creative ability, he was also a goalscoring threat due to his striking ability from distance
In 1952 Gento started his career at Racing Santander, he moved to Real Madrid a year later. He became a Madrid legend throughout his playing career with the No.11 shirt. Francisco Gento ranks fifth among Real Madrid C.F. player by total number of appearances (601)
In his 14 years international career Gento played for the Spanish national team 43 times scoring 5 goals.
He played in 2 world cups; 1962 and 1966 for his beloved Spain
He appeared in a joint record eight European Cup finals, winning a record six, as well as winning 12 La Liga titles.

Gento remains the ONLY man dead or alive to have won the European Cup a record 6 times with Real Madrid (an unmatched record), HE scored 30 goals in 89 European Cup career matches.

Also he shares a record of playing in 8 European cup finals with AC Milan’s Paolo Maldini though he has a better winning ratio than Paolo. Gento won 6 finals and lost 2, while the Milan legend won 5 finals and suffered 3 defeats
After he retired from football in 1971, he decided to take up coaching. He took charge of various lower-league teams, such as Castilla, Castellón, Palencia, and Granada. In the end, he accepted a post working as an ambassador for Real Madrid throughout Europe. Following the death of Alfredo Di Stéfano, Gento was appointed as the Honorary President of Real Madrid.
