Today marks a new dawn in the basketball sphere in Nigeria as Oil giant Total Nigeria signed a 2-year N60M sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Basketball Federation led by Musa Kida for National Divisions 1&2 Leagues. The event which took place at the Unity Hall, Eko Towers, Victoria Island Lagos was well attended.

The deal is the biggest deal ever to be signed at that level of Nigerian basketball and it has been described as a “major breakthrough” for the domestic league.

Under this new arrangement,74 teams will battle it out at National Division 1 and 2 Leagues this year. The division will be targeted at grassroots players and rookies who are just at the developmental stage of the game with more games expected to be played.

Bottom line still remains that the little matter of the NBBF leadership tussle must be urgently addressed and a settlement reached. FIBA the ball is in your court and we are waiting for your guidelines and election proper
