Organisers of the new African Golf Tour on Tuesday said 16 events would feature when it begins next year.

President of the tour, Emeka Okata, stated this in Abuja during the unveiling of the tour logo. Okata said the tour was upgraded from West Africa Golf Tour to accommodate players outside the region who had been part of the tour since it began in 2016.

Among the championships to feature in 2019 are FCT Classic, Eko Challenge Cup, Memorare, Port Harcourt Classic, South-East Shoot Out, Shagamu Classic and 1st October Championship.

Okata said, “We broadened the tour to accommodate the southern African golfers and players from other regions of the continent who were part of the West African Golf Tour since 2016.

“The African Tour will also give women players the opportunity to play all tournaments alongside men and compete for the same trophy after successfully passing the qualifying school. The tour will pursue its aspiration to stage tournaments in other African countries and eventually co-sanction events with other professional golf tours around the world.”
