Nigeria on Tuesday qualified for the Qualification match and will play Greece for the quarter-final ticket at the ongoing 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain after defeating Argentina 75-70.
D’Tigress started on a poor footing but came on strong to win the first quarter by 19-13. One thing going for this team is that they haven’t panicked since they lost their first match against the Aussies. A match many followers of the game believed sent signals of a would-be superlative performance in their yet to be played matches.

The ladies from Lionel Messi’s country fought hard in the second quarter and reduced the deficit but the SUPER D’tigress ensured that they held on to their lead, thereby winning the first half 32-29.

The third quarter was fiercely contested as the Argentines rallied their troops against the Nigerians, many Nigerians watching the match were on the edge as the score board showed the reality of what had been going on on the court 47-47, minutes to end of the third quarter. The D’tigress through Evelyn Akhator’s bravery won the closely contested third quarter by 51-48.
The D’tigress remembered that this same Argentina knocked out our Super Eagles from Russia 2018 by a late Marcos Rojo goal, so they ensured that they closed ranks and eventually triumph over the “perennial adversary” 75-70.

So the Super D’tigress have succeeded in doing what the men national football team called the Super Eagles had failed to do against Argentina at all their world cup meetings.

Congratulations on your feat ladies. Sportsdiscourse salutes you
